You see those streets in England, you see them in Switzerland, where cars, bicyclists, pedestrians are all navigating, sometimes even without striped lanes, the same roadway.
A 2016 study found that large trucks made up only 3.6% of vehicles in New York City but are responsible for 32% of bicyclist fatalities and 12% of pedestrian fatalities.
They also have a bunch of sensors to constantly scan the area around the them, looking for any hazards -- whether that's another car, a bicyclist, or even a rogue bird!
So, they didn't worry as much about hitting the bicyclist, and they actually drove closer to them, which, of course, is more dangerous for the bicyclist.
[Jane] And if you're a human, we know humans, use this kind of technique too. Often it's called drafting. You might see cyclists doing it, like one bicyclist will be right behind another one.
